There isn’t a kinder more loving mule around. This little lady was saved from slaughter. Used up by mankind and thrown away. She has ringbone and and old hip injury. We have given her ongoing laser treatment, taping treatment and hemp pellets and she is doing fantastic. She is one of active equine coaching partners and she is truly one of a kind. She has had a hard life and deserves kindness and care for the rest of her days. We are grateful she still loves people and loves to help heal the humans she comes into contact with.

We here all too often “horse that end up headed to slaughter end up there for a reason”.
That is a MYTH.
Meet Liberty dumped at auction and bought by a kill buyer at the age of 4. Oh, did I mention he is a grandson of Peptoboonsmal. This boy is bred to the hilt. Because of his brand we were able find out a little about him. He was bought as a baby and ended up in a reining barn......the same barn that sold him at auction. Liberty is a great example of how humans ruin horses. He is the small percentage of the horse population that wasn’t going to be trained by a dominant style of training. We believe he was pushed and pushed and when humans wouldn’t listen he lashed out. He is reactive. This is a horse that needed people to meet him where he was, train him at his pace (not theirs) and they would have had an incredible horse instead they broke him and threw him away. Liberty has sanctuary with us, he would not stand a chance with the public. He takes a kind patient, aware handler. We love him and we hope his story will inspire people to see and train horses differently.

Galahad is a 16 year old gelding rescued from slaughter. He’s a beautiful, stocky built redhead. We believe he is an ex ranch or feedlot horse. He loves being part of the herd here at Journey with Equus. He is rideable and will be evaluated this spring to see if he’s willing to partner with us in our equine partnered coaching programs.

Rescued as a yearling, this gorgeous girl has been with us for 8 years. She is a Quarter/Arab cross. She is the lead mare of her herd. She is sensitive and smart. She is fairly reactive so we are not sure she will work out as a equine coaching partner. We will be evaluating this spring. We are committed to letting her live a life full of love and never knowing abuse or fear.

Saved from slaughter at the age of 7. Moxie is a stout black quarter horse mare. We have experienced lameness issues with her from the time she found us. We have yet been able to diagnose the issue as it comes and goes. We have promised Moxie that we will keep her comfortable and give her a life of love and that she will never be thrown away again. She is a happy member of our herd.

Renata is an 18 year old mustang mare. She was saved from slaughter. She came of the feedlot, walking on 3 legs. We immediately had the vet look at her. The vet recommended putting her down. That diagnosis didn’t feel right for us. We got a second opinion and consulted with a few farriers. I am happy to report that Renata is sound and happy and healthy today. She is a valued member of our herd and we will be evaluating her as an equine coaching partner this spring.

This big beautiful, registered Tennessee Walker was saved from slaughter at the age of 7. We were able to track down some of his past owners who stated he’s an awesome horse, has a lot of go so wasn’t a fix for their programs, and he by no means should be on a feedlot.
He is trained to ride, and he has a big motor. He is kind and sensitive on the ground and we are excited to evaluate him this spring as an equine coaching partner.

Cannot say enough nice things about this boy. He was rescued from slaughter at the age of 15. He has scars all over his body. Vet made the statement either he was in a trailer accident or survived a tornado. We will never know what really happened. Despite his past, he is loving and calm and we are excited to partner with him through our equine coaching programs.

15 years old and a stallion dumped at auction and bought by a kill buyer. Taken to a feedlot and put into a herd with mares, babies, gelding and 6-7 other stallions.... We knew we couldn't leave him there. Stallions, especially older ones are seldom a horse people are willing to take a chance on. Noir arrived safely in quarantine, sick and beaten up from fighting. He was so anxious he would not eat grain for 3 weeks. Due to his illness, we had to use a panel to catch him and doctor him. He was so scared, he bit, kicked and ran over whomever might be in the way. Fast forward 60 days, Noir is finally healthy and we moved him to a facility set up for stallions. We were hopeful that we could help this stallion regain his trust of people. We had a local trainer donate some of his time to work with Noir. Several days into the trainer working with Noir, I received a call and a voice full of concern. The comment was made that if this horse was at our facility he would be euthanized. We inquired as to why this was their thought, we asked if he was being aggressive. We were told no, not aggressive, so scared he would try to kill himself to get away. We nicely stated then, lets leave him alone. This horse needs time to feel safe, not be pushed to conform to the needs and timeframe of mankind. Time is what Noir needed. Today is he lovable and handle-able. He has sanctuary with us and will be in further relationship training with us this spring. Stay tuned for updates on this gorgeous boy.

Saved from a Texas feedlot just days prior to being scheduled to ship to slaughter. This beautiful 6-year-old mule has not had a kind life. Scarred physically and mentally. Whiskey made his way to Colorado and Journey with Equus where he will find sanctuary and a second chance. It's been a slow slow process he does not trust humans. We are taking it one day at a time, at his pace and no agenda. Just giving love, compassion and time. Watch as this sweet boy blooms
