Genevieve aka "Vieve" is a 10 year old Moriesian Mare and a coaching partner extraordinaire. Her work is incredible to watch . This sweet mare came to us as a coming yearling. We have been blessed to watch her grow up and develop into the most incredible personality and shes pretty easy on the eyes too. She is helping people heal past traumas and move towards a positive future.
We are sad to say we lost Vieve in 2022. She is dearly missed. We continue our work with horses and humans in her honor.

Roanin was saved from slaughter hours before the trucks were loaded. He was thrown away as a 3 year old stallion. We will never know exactly why. Maybe because he was a crypt-orchid or due to a herd dispersal. What we do know is too many times the stallions ship. No one wants to take a chance on what appears to be a young unhandled stallion, much less a crypt-orchid. We knew there was something special about this young boy. We rallied the troups and brought him to quarantine. He was thin and sick. Scared and reactive. Did not want the touch of a human hand. Once out of quarantine we started the gentling process. Roanin started to come around, yet remained very reactive. At that time I was convinced he would be a one person horse. Shortly after he was taken to CSU for surgery to become a gelding. The surgery went well and home he came. 3 months later Roanin developed a jugular thrombosis and was back in the hospital. This was the beginning of a rigorous twice a day care regimen for us to bring him back to health. What happened during this time was the emergence of the a kind, gentle, quirky, fun loving horse. Roanin loves people, all people. We are so grateful to share his journey and that he is healthy today. Roanin is one of our equine coaches who help people develop their leadership and self empowerment to become the best versions of themselves.

Magic is a great example that any horse, even those that are young, full of promise and have incredible breeding are at risk. Magic came into our awareness as a 5 year old, just gelded Arabian. He was in training at a world champion trainers facility where 2 of our stallions were being boarded. Magic was everything his name suggests. We would visit our stallions and we would spend a little extra time with Magic too. One day the trainer mentioned that the owner was terminally ill and that she was worried what would happen to Magic if the owner passed. She was worried he would end up at auction. Just a few days later the trainer asked me if we would be willing to take in Magic, that the owner agreed that coming into Journey with Equus would give him a life of safety, love and the care he deserves. We are beyond grateful to share the journey with Magic. He will be evaluated this spring to become an equine coaching partner.

Oh this girl, if only she could talk. Bred by a very well known Morgan horse breeder, raised up to be a show horse. Sold at the age of 4 with all the promise in the world. Fast forward 5 years later she found herself dumped onto an individual, starved and scared. The person brought her back to health and stated that due to the fact that she didn't know her background and know anything about Morgans, she took her to a well known local auction that the kill buyers frequent. She was purchased by a kill buyer and taken to the feedlot with a week til she would ship to slaughter. We have a big heart for Morgans and we found out she is related to our Founders late Morgan which she had for 24 years. We immediately rallied the troups and got her to safety. Vdara has taken a long time to come around, to trust. We love her and she has sanctuary here with us.

Young, gorgeous and waiting on feedlot to ship to slaughter. We couldn't believe our eyes. We are grateful we were able to save this girl. She has a quiet old soul energy to her. The first year and a half we had her, she was ellusive and not willing to leave her paddock. We believe she was so traumatized by her past experiences that she thought if she went past the gate she was going to be loaded up and taken somewhere bad. We are happy to report that since moivng into our new facility this big girl has completely transformed. She is so loving, drops her head into the halter and is easily handled by anybody. She will start evaluation this spring to become one of our equine coaching partners

Look at this sweet baby girl. She is 4.5 years old. She was saved from slaughter and spent 6 months in quarantine, due to financial hardship. We are grateful that she found her way to us. She is reactive and super smart. She trusts more every day and we are excited to watch her settle in and bloom into the beautiful young horse that we know she is.

Saved from slaughter and brought to us. This young 3.5 year old mare is a special girl. She came into quarantine, sick and it took us longer than usual to get her healthy. Just days after we received a clean bill of health, mulitple facilities in Colorado were shut down due to a Equine Infectious Anemia scare. This extended her stay in quarantine to 4 months total. She was depressed and aggressive. We are so happy to say, she is here at our facility and she is healthy, happy and at a great weight. Most importantly she is not the naughty girl we met in quarantine. She is sweet and loveable and truly unique. We are excited to share her journey and watch her mature.

Waverly was saved from slaughter at the young age of 2. She was saved by a young woman who just fell in love with her. I met Waverly while she was in quarantine and we too fell in love with her. Not long after this we were contacted by the owner who upon the vet examination for her health certificate discovered she has an old injury that would prevent her from becoming a performance horse. The owner asked if we would be willing to bring her into our herd and our programs. How could we say no. Waverly is a beautiful young horse. She has a strong opinion and loves people. She will be evaluated this spring to see if she will fit into our coaching programs.

What a kind sweet soul this senior lady is. Rescued from slaughter and brought to us. She is 18-20 years old. Appears to have been used primarily as a broodmare, and we have no doubt she trained to ride. She was also caught up in an extra long quarantine stay and lost her baby during that time. We are so happy to have her join our herd. She has sanctuary with us and I have no doubt she will be a great addition to our equine partnered coaching programs

Saved from slaughter as a 15 year old stallion. Hes a sweetheart and we have been working hard to get him 100% health so that we can geld him. He has struggled with infections and respiratory issues. We are currently on a 30 day regime of antibiotics and are praying this will get him healthy as he has been experiencing minor nose bleeds for 2 months. If this does not clear him up he will be scheduled to visit CSU. He is so sweet and deserving and we want nothing more to give him a happy home to retire and live out his life knowing love and kindness

Valentine is a survivor. His story is one that makes us questions humanity. Valentine was taken to the auction and purchased by a kill buyer at the age of 7. He was a stallion and had been being used as a breeding stallion. What was unbelievable was the condition of his hooves. There were terribly overgrown and curling under. This condition was made worse by the fact that he has some confirmation issues (which most likely could have been fixed as a young colt)
We knew, in this condition and being a stallion, his chances of being saved were slim. With hours to spare we raised the funds and brought him to safety. Valentine was taken to quarantine and his feed were immediately addressed. To our surprise no signs of arthritis yet. After his quarantine stay he was gelded and on his way to recovery.... so we thought. One day as upon visiting Valentine we notices he was walking all spread out like a spider and rocking in his stay (a sign of pain) and when he would move his back end would drop out from underneath him. We were concerned we might not be able to save him. The vet was called. Valentine would go several days in this condition, then be fine and then several days later revert back. The vet was finally able to locate the issue. He has 3 vertebrae out in his neck. With adjustment everything changed almost over night. We continued with regular chiropractic work, massage and laser therapy. Today Valentine is doing great and living a happy healthy life. He will always be in need of preventative maintenance like, laser therapy and hemp pellets to help ward off arthritis and keep him comfortable. He has sanctuary with us and will never know pain or fear again.

Check out this big gorgeous hunk of a horse. This boy was in the in the kill buyers resale pen, and without warning was at risk of shipping to slaughter. We stepped up and saved him. Suave is extremely well trained, can be ridden with a halter, and neck reins with the slightest touch. We will never understand how people throw away these sweet souls. This boy has a lot of energy. We will be working with him this year to see if he will evaluate out to become an equine coaching partner. We believe with consistent exercise or riding he will be calm enough to do the work.

Personality plus... that this boy. He may be little and he commands your attention. This little guy was brought on as another local rescue was downsizing their herd. We fell in love with this little guy and just knew he would be perfect for our youth programs. He came to us a stallion and will be gelded this spring as the weather warms up a bit. He loves people and love to show off. He warms the heart of all that meet him.

This big beautiful boy was thrown away at auction. Hes only about 11 years old. His owners used him up and when he became sore and broken down they tossed him away at auction known to be frequented by kill buyers. Thanks to our supporters we were able to save him from that fate. We have a long road ahead with this big boy. He has ring bone and due to not getting the care he needs he appears to have chiropractic needs as well. This boy is in need of some loyal sponsors so that we can continue to get him the medical and therapy care he needs. He is a great candidate for surgery which statistically 70% of the horses going through are coming out 100% sound. Please consider sponsoring this boy. Our horses with medical needs are so deserving of a quality life.

Valor is an 8 year old registered Morgan. He was brought to us by his loving owner and her wonderful friend. His owner purchased him 3 years prior to being brought to us. Due to the damage of his upbringing the owner and her friend felt he was not safe for the general public and that if put back out into the market or with a traditional dominance type trainer that Valors life would be at risk. Thankful that both these women had his best interests in mind and reached out to us. We couldn't say no to the stunning boy, who is looking to loved and understood.
When you give a gift monthly to Valor, you help fund his special diet, care and meet his overall needs to thrive. Thank you for sharing his journey and giving him a second chance
